Carmenza Jaramillo is a highly respected diplomat with a distinguished and multifaceted career in the service of Colombian diplomacy. Throughout her professional trajectory, she has served as Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to countries such as India, China, Portugal, and Hungary, and has also been accredited as a non-resident Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Her tenure in each of these missions was marked by a strong commitment to political dialogue and the promotion of bilateral relations.
Beyond her diplomatic career, Ambassador Jaramillo played a key role in strengthening Colombia’s foreign economic policy, having served as Director of ProColombia in the United States. In that capacity, she made a decisive contribution to the approval of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the United States and Colombia — a milestone in the economic relations between the two countries.
Her work has been widely recognized at the international level, earning her several prestigious honors. In 2023, she was awarded the Order of Merit of Hungary – Middle Cross, presented by H.E. Katalin Novák, President of Hungary. Earlier, in 2019, she received the Order of Prince Henry – Grand Cross, bestowed by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in recognition of her contribution to strengthening relations between Portugal and Colombia.
A native of Colombia, Carmenza Jaramillo holds a Law degree from Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá) and has completed specializations in Politics and Diplomacy at Universidad del Rosario (Bogotá), the London School of Economics (United Kingdom), the Vatican City, and the Sorbonne Paris II (France). Her solid academic background and extensive international experience reflect her deep commitment to diplomacy, multilateralism, and sustainable development — values that have guided her distinguished career.
