António Leão Rocha
Ambassador of Portugal to Canada

António Leão Rocha was born in Lisbon in 1959. He studied Law at the Portuguese Catholic University before pursuing his passion for history, graduating with a degree in History from the University of Lisbon, with the intention of becoming a researcher and university professor.

Following his military service, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal in December 1987, beginning a distinguished diplomatic career. Over the years, he has served in the Embassies of Portugal in Argentina, South Africa, France, Guinea-Bissau, and Chile. On April 8, 2022, he assumed his current position as Ambassador of Portugal to Canada.

Ambassador Leão Rocha’s career reflects a deep commitment to public service and international cooperation. His work has been recognized with numerous national and foreign honors, including the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Portugal, as well as distinctions from Germany, Brazil, France, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Morocco, Ecuador, and Chile.
